The Best Way to Store Power Tool Batteries: Caddies vs Wall Mounts

Every tradie and serious DIYer ends up with a drawer full of batteries — M18s, Makita 18Vs, DeWalt 20Vs, a few Ryobi ONE+ packs. Loose storage isn't just messy: terminals get knocked, packs get dropped, and you can never tell what's charged. Here's how to sort it properly.

Wall mounts: for the shed or garage

If your batteries live in one place, wall mounts are the cleanest option. Each pack clicks into its own slot, up off the bench and away from moisture, dust and dropped tools. You can see your whole battery fleet at a glance — chargers can be wall-mounted right next to them for a proper charging station.

We make battery wall mounts for Milwaukee M18 and M12, Makita 18V and 12V CXT, DeWalt 20V, Ryobi ONE+, Bosch 18V, AEG, Ozito PXC and EGO 56V — in singles up to 10-packs.

Battery caddies: for batteries that travel

If your packs go to site every day, a battery caddy is the better buy. Four or six batteries click into one carrier you can grab with one hand, sit flat in the ute or trailer, and drop onto the bench at the other end. No more batteries rolling around a toolbox. Our Milwaukee caddy is even Packout-compatible, and the 8-slot "Caddy Daddy" carries a full day of power for big crews.

Battery storage safety basics

  • Keep terminals protected. A loose battery against metal tools is a short-circuit risk. Slotted storage keeps terminals clear.
  • Avoid extreme heat. Don't leave lithium packs on a hot dashboard. Our PETG holders are heat-resistant, but batteries themselves still prefer shade.
  • Store partly charged, not flat. If packs sit for weeks, around half charge is healthiest for lithium cells.
  • Keep them dry and off the floor. Wall mounting handles this by default.

Which one should you buy?

Simple rule: batteries that stay home go on the wall; batteries that travel go in a caddy. Most tradies end up with both — mounts in the shed for spares, a caddy in the ute for the working set.

Everything we make is 3D printed in Queensland from tough PETG, designed for each battery platform's exact clip pattern, and ships fast Australia-wide — free shipping over $70. Start with the battery caddy range or browse our best sellers.
